Project Overview
This ambitious two-acre project in Cholsbury transformed an underdeveloped space into a multi-functional woodland retreat. Working closely with the client, we created distinct recreational areas while maintaining the natural character of the setting.
The Brief
Create an engaging outdoor space incorporating:
Full-size basketball court
Connected pathway system
Large natural pond
Access to renovated outbuilding (as featured on George Clarke's Amazing Spaces)
The Challenge
The project required extensive earthworks and creative problem-solving to work with the natural topography. We moved and repurposed thousands of tons of soil to create level areas while maintaining the site's organic feel. The sloping terrain demanded careful planning for drainage and accessibility.
The Solution
We carefully sculpted the landscape to:
Create a sheltered clearing for the basketball court
Install a robust pathway system with wooden edging and self-binding gravel
Construct a deep, natural-looking pond
Ensure all elements worked harmoniously with the woodland setting
The Result
The finished space feels like a private retreat, blending recreational facilities with natural beauty. The basketball court nestles naturally into the landscape, while the pond and pathways create a sense of discovery. It's a perfect balance of functionality and rustic charm - a holiday-like escape in your own garden.
